Is Tesco Clubcard scheme still safe?

Does anyone think that Tesco will continue with their Clubcard scheme or is there a chance that they could alter the buying powers it has eg double, treble or quadruple value on certain items? Just wondering, with them being a bit shaky at the moment, whether to continue to save them or to make purchases. I don't suppose they could just abolish the system with people losing what they have saved but, on the other hand, maybe they could. Any thoughts on this?

I very much doubt they'll get rid, though the terms could change, but think you would be given fair warning to cash them in etc.0

its currently a sixteen billion pound company, if thats shaky then it will do me :rotfl:
If anything i suspect they will improve clubcard to attract and retain more customers.0 -
Excellent! I was thinking that it would probably be kept as it is a carrot dangling for their customers. I think if they stopped the Clubcard scheme they would no doubt lose a lot of customers. I do know people who only buy their petrol at Tesco because of the Clubcard scheme as it all mounts up in a year. I also know people who have stopped doing their grocery shopping there because they can get cheaper elsewhere. For example, when I was preparing my shopping list today, one of the items was 75p more than Asda. That's only one example but there are many more. I don't think there should be such a massive difference.
LOL @ alanobrien - '£16bn - will do me' - Yes, me too lol. Just with the news reports the other night, it just made me wonder about the Clubcard scheme."For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."0 -
Morrisons are launching a loyalty card in the next few months. So if even they see the benefit of one, I can't see Tesco wanting to get rid of theirs.0

I never could understand why Morrisons didn't set up a loyalty card scheme as there must be a lot of people who avoid Morrisons just to get their Clubcard points. Good for Morrisons as all competition is good for the consumer. Tesco still closer for us though."For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."0

I very much doubt it. The Fuel Save scheme has up the demand for Clubcards. And it's making people more keen to use them, i.e. if they lose one, it's quickly replaced.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0

I agree; if Tesco want to retain their customers let alone gather more they wont stop or reduce the Clubcard scheme, I can see them trying to boost more of their own brands and stopping selling brands that are more niche and less profit making but offers such as those that come with the clubcard are a strong way to get people in the door- they'd be pretty stupid to disappoint people, especially those that use it to save things.
My guess is that the money will be reaped back via cheaper-lower quality produce, less flamboyant advertising and staffing culls.
But I could be wrong.0 -
I think I'll just hold onto my points then as you're all probably right with this. People would vote with their feet if they did remove the Clubcard scheme. morrison scheme will be a lot different to club card, and will be rolled out from this friday until all areas by xmas
basically if an item would be 60p cheaper elsewhere(inc aldi and lidl)you would get 600 points, then you can swap 5000 points for a £5 voucher, they seem to have forgotten the simple rule of retailing

Agree- this sounds quite complex and raises a few questions: are we talking the end total cost of a complete shop and then pay the difference (in points) onto the card? Or is this per item so that despite the overall spend being say £5 less than in Tesco, if you purchased the milk that was 60p cheaper in Tesco would you still get the 60p (in points) paid onto the card? (Thought not!)
It was that sort of mentality which had me opt out of trying to battle with the various supermarket price competition promises and just go straight to the cheaper stores to get what I wanted without the headache of trying to compare every item I wanted which was out of the ordinary- I know where my basics are cheaper but not the odd "hmm I think I'll try that" purchases.0
