optician opinion please?

I had vision test two weeks ago from well known high street opticians. Told I need varifocals (never had glasses before) went to collect them, could see better without than with! Can read N5 with both eyes without glasses.
they said they must have made them too strong, so tested again, going to collect today.
am wondering if I actually do need glasses at all, or id I should ask for a refund?
these are the "results" they gave me:
TEST 1-
RIGHT sph +1.00 distance ,+2.25near cyl -1.25 distance , -1.25 near axis 175.0 distance , 175.0 near
LEFT sph +1.00 distance , +2.25 near ,cyl -1.00 distance ,-1.00 near axis 5.0 distance ,5.0 near.
TEST 2-
RIGHT +0.50 distance ,+1.50 near cyl -1.00 distance -1.00 near axis 180.0 distance ,180.0 near
LEFT +0.5 distance , +1.50 near cyl -0.75 distance, -0.75 near
axis 10.0 distance, 10.0 near
any advice and/or opinions or anything I should ask them today?
Obviously don't want to wear (or pay for) glasses I don't need!
TIA

Hi OP,
If you're unhappy, you can put in a complaint regarding the first test and subsequent glasses.
Not allowed to provide medical opinion on here. Why not speak to the optician, or speak to an optician at another establishment for a second opinion?0 -
Do you drive? Or do anything similar where your eyesight might impact on others.
My eyes are in a similar ballpark and I have glasses which I wear a few times a week. It did take a while to get used to them but I am glad to have them now.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I have similar prescription slightly weaker, my glasses have been prescribed for concentrating tasks, so I agree I can see just as well without but the glasses take the strain and pressure away from eyes and headaches. Maybe give them few days then go back0

So here is a wild guess, Specsavers, First test automated machine (autorefractor), second test by subjective test off a chart?
If so there is a good chance your second test will prove a better result, IMHO. I'm just a users of glasses.0 -
well, back from specsavers, this pair are better.they sharpen up what I can already see, so feel I'd like to keep them.
they have told me to wear all the time, and in a week decide if the glasses are ok. it was a BOGOF so will have second pair made up as sunglasses.
feel happier, thanks for all the input
