Renting and bankruptcy

Hi there,
I'm struggling to find a definitive answer on this so I'm hoping someone in the know can tell me!
When I go bankrupt, will my landlord be contacted?
I've been told by some people that the landlord will only be contacted if my rent is in arrears, but today I was told by an insolvency practitioner that they would have to contact the landlord to confirm the rent (?).
Can anyone clear this up for me? It creates a huge problem for me if the latter is true.
Thanks in advance.

If your rental payments show up on your accounts, and you have documented proof of how much it is, then the OR may not need to contact your LL.
If you can show you are not in arrears, then request the OR not to contact the LL, giving the OR reasons for not doing so.No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Thank you!
Silly question, but how do I prove I'm not in arrears?
I pay on time every month, what else can I do?0 -
How do you pay?No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0

Then, your bank statements will show the amount leaving your account every month..and you can show where it goes, too.
The OR will see your bank statements. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Thanks alastairq. Very helpful :-)0

You would also need to provide the Official Receiver with a copy of your tenancy agreement and when speaking to them (after the bankruptcy order has been made) that they do not contact your landlord.I worked as a case clerk for the IS for a number of years. Any views expressed are my own. If your query is urgent, please contact the OR or LTADT dealing with your case directly.
Always receive expert advice before going bankrupt.0 -
Forgot to mention that one, ta very muchNo, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0

If you have standard (private) rental called an 'Assured Shorthold Tenancy' then the OR won't need to inform your landlord.
Cheers
