  • So today was a NSD woohoo! We took DD to a party but the present etc came out of our little stock of gifts and cards (needing replenishing soon) and apart from that we caught up with household chores and went to the park with the kids.

We've had a bit of a quiet weekend on the house renovation front as we can't start the next phase until the boiler is replaced etc.. Both DH and I were at a loss as to what to do with ourselves! We spent last weekend laying a path and usually there is some big job or other to do.
This weekend has felt much longer than usual, which is no bad thing!

Next weekend will be neither quiet nor non-spendy - we have friends coming down from Scotland with their 1 year old twins!!

On the money making front have sold a couple of bits on ebay so have another £50 or so to put towards the pot and another few pounds owing to me from other sales which I should get this week. :D

A pretty good weekend all in all, it's nice to have got to Sunday night without feeling like there was no downtime! :)

Hope everyone else has had a good one and is ready for Monday!
  • Haven't been on for a few days, it's been a bit hectic and no real money saving happening here. We're having a bit of a nightmare - we got an update on our car yesterday, it still isn't working and the bill clocked up so far is over £2k :'( I could actually cry.

As a result we can't do the kitchen plan because we can't afford to do the whole lot, so it's looking like I have to live with it until at least early next year when we might have recouped the car amount somewhat - we don't want to be going massively in the red for this, it kind of defeats the purpose of being a MFW. :(

I know these things happen and I'm trying to be philosophical about it but aaarrgh! How is it that these things come along whenever you think you have a handle on stuff?

I'm really sorry to hear about your car troubles. I hope that they figure out the issue soon and that the final cost isn't much more. It's so disheartening, isn't it. :(

  • Haven't been in for a while as not much money saving happening, but I have still been keeping track of other diaries and trying to stay inspired! :)

Car is STILL in the garage, I think it might actually be a record. Frustrating as we can't move forward with other things until it gets sorted and we know what the bill is...

On the plus side, an overpayment of £500 has gone out to the mortgage co today. Will phone them later this week (no online facility) to check they have received it and current balance. I think I need to break it down into smaller goals because honestly the thought of trying to pay off £270k is pretty daunting!
Once I know the new balance I think I might set us a goal of getting the balance down to x by the time our mortgage comes up for renewal (May)... :D
  • like you i'm daunted at paying off the total mortgage amount so i instead aim to make 4 monthly payments each quarter plus the interest charged each quarter. it's a lot more manageable.
