They'll be cheaper. Cant see tesco standing back and letting the others take the lions share of this market.

How much smaller are they this year? And are they in non-reusable tubs rather than tins? (Not that tin lids have had a sound enough fit for reuse for ages, anyway.)

I saw Quality Street at 64p/100g the other day in Lidl ... and I mentally remembered that as my guide price for Xmas chocs. I prefer to buy at 50p/100g, which I did in Sainsburys, xmas 2012.

I feel I should offer a cautionary tale about the 780g boxes of Roses. I was at my parent's last weekend and saw a box, assumed that it was an old box filled with sewing needles and thread so opened it thinking that I would be able to reinforce some buttons in front of the TV. The seal on the box appeared to be open, and when I opened the box was surprised to see it 2/3 full of sweeties...so I did the polite thing and ate one. My mum wasn't v impresses that I had opened a gift given to her, especially as there was loads of other chocolate in the house! I was a bit confused, there was no resistance on the seal so I had no concept that the box had not been opened before :o. Feeling some shame, I popped into Tesco last Saturday and replaced them (at £5, may I add :D) and gave them to my mum.

I am told that history repeated itself: my sister did the exact same thing when she visited yesterday, thinking that the box was being used as storage :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

So be warned, the seals offer little resistance, and the boxes are far from full. If I buy these again I shall put a papers seal over the tab so I know they are unopened.

Tesco website says Roses are 753g but you say 780?

Net vs gross weights - the same box.

781g once I have added the necessary Sellotape. :o

  • I bought a tin of roses on Saturday as they were invitingly stacked at the entrance. Thought they would be good for Christmas. We ate them Sunday. I should just wait until Christmas eve as normal lol
