Having received no call from the SLC I rang them on Friday afternoon to chase up the escalation of my case. After being on hold for 37 minutes and subsequently having to explain the issue to 2 different people I was told I would be called back by a manager later that day. The call came and I spoke to someone who stated he was from the escalations department and again I explained the whole issue. The whole call took almost an hour. He confirmed that the error was from the FY07-08 and that the error came about as the person entering details into their computer system had typed a wrong character when entering the details from my P60. My P60 said I had repaid £1131 that year and the operator entered £1331. When I raised the issues of: interest added since their error and suggested they write off the amount in question as my loan agreement had ended when they had written to me in 2008 stating that the loan was terminated due to repayment, he said that its money owed to the government so it was impossible to write it off. Having then pointed out that I had escalated this claim for the purpose of having the interest written off he then said he wasn’t authorised to do that and had to escalate the complaint again. He’s now said I have to wait up to 15 days for a reply, meaning that another month will pass and another £102 will be stolen from my wages.
