Sky Renewal

Hello.

Hope you are all well on this fine Friday morning.

My Sky subscription is due for renewal at the end of this month and obviously I want to go about securing the best deal, otherwise I might consider leaving them and hopping over to Virgin whom I am also a subscriber with as I subscribe to their broadband service.

I did recently read a thread on MSE that suggested that Sky were now a lost cause when it came to getting 'good' deals.

Say it isn't so! :)

So, has anyone recently renewed with them and got a great deal, any advice on negotiating with them?

Basically after any general advice, tips, suggestions and so forth.....

If you are on cable then get yourself a quote from Virgin, then you have something to negotiate with.
You could always downsize your Sky package, or maybe get Sky broadband (assuming you have a BT line, and its available in your area).

I got sky + free no installation costs or monthly fee as long as I had some type of Sky package. I really wanted a reduction on the price but this was all that was on offer.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I am only just now getting around to renewing with Sky.

I was thinking of perhaps cancelling my current Sky package and then re-applying in a month through Quidco for the £110 cashback plus whatever offer is currently available to new customers.

Do you think this is a good idea, or would you push for a good renewal package?

I believe you can only get the new customer discount once from Sky. If you have moved house you can probably get away with it but the contract outlaws the re-subscribing as a new customer.

After the 12 month initial contract it just goes to a month by month bases with 30 day cancellation rule.

They don't tie you in for another 12 months like a mobile company unless you upgrade to Sky+ or SkyHD - this involves another 12 month contract as they need to get the money back for the subsidised equipment.

I think a way round this is to re apply in your spouces name. The account is in 1 name only, if you notice they ask to speak to the account holder when you phone up if this is not you.So cancel your sky and take out a new deal in your spouces name. Hope this helps.

  • there's whole thread on this somewhere and most people seem to be getting Sky + no installation and no monthly subs either, usually for a top package. tried to cancell myself only to realise it's in hubbys name but comes from my account, so gotts get him to get me sky + for free hope he don't mess up lol
