My guess is that it's using US historic period mortality rates instead of even cohort rates for the US or better the UK.

If that is the one you used I suggest not taking its figures too seriously. I think that the ONS produces some tables that could be used to get cohort numbers for the UK.

I didn't save the links but quite a few were available when I googled (UK) them yesterday, I need all the encouragement I can get to keep my alcohol units down so I made myself believe the most pessimistic one (for drinkers) for a 56 year old:

Consume 1-14 units of alcohol/week - 89 years
Consume 21 units of alcohol/week - 86 years
Consume over 21 units of alcohol/week - only 76 years!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously 'over 21 units' covers a very wide range but that should take care of my recent temporary falling off the wagon (for now anyway). It considered many other factors which I tend to do well in (family history, non smoking, exercise and diet etc.), but drinking is/was my only bad factor.
