Personal loan to fund the purchase of a flat?

Wrong - they will lend but on a secured basis not unsecured.I know that is true...but it is so stupid. They'll lend money for you to spend it all on a overseas holiday that only lasts a month (during which time you aren't working and earning so apply for a payment holiday on your return) and that you'll be paying for years for but not lend the money so you can buy something with some residual value.

Out of interest, what kind of flat can you buy in Scotland for just £40K?
In some parts of Glasgow you can get a flat for under £30,000. Govanhill (home of Rab C Nesbitt), Govanhill, Calton, Parkhead and Drumchapel (known affectionately as a The Drum) to name but a few. I'm sure there are some good eggs living in these areas but if you're thinking of moving there you better be good at dodging tomahawks.0
