I've just seen you wrote this ^^. After 13 years I have just 7 more payments to make, :j (the same amount as you are paying) and then it's finished. :T
At the moment I intend to save it as I have no inclination to spend at all. However, I know in future ds will continue to cost me dear! The 1st car, Uni subs, gap year etc etc. I will expect him to work for these things but I hope to match him 50/50. Otherwise I will now save long term for my retirement.

Thank You Triple Choc Chip for sharing your fantastic story - demonstrating how much can be achieved with will power an determination and the right frame of mind....
and only 7 more payments to go...Amazing and what a relief it will be - not just to have that money available but that you have seen your son's journey through to completion:)
And I know it doesn't stop there, I was just thinking the other day that my dad, very traditionally, has paid for 4/5 of us to get married, wouldn't have it any other way. I only have 1DD and nothing in the pot for her wedding should she decide to get married before she is 25!!

That is a great way to look at it - I am going to think of my fees in that way too - only 34 payments left to go :)

Just wondered if anyone has any more stories to share or update?
    NOA

    ORIGINAL POST
It has been really inspiring to see "Debt Free!" in many of the signatures:T
and got me wondering how people have got there. Much as I would love to read each and every diary, there are not enough hours in the day!

As suggested by Brizzledfw and TizerCat, I am starting this new thread and hope that people will post a quick summary of the route they took to be able to sign that elusive "Debt Free" autograph!

    Suggestions of info to add:-

Total debt and date started to deal with it.
Debt Free date/how long it took.
    How did you do it?
    Paid in Full?
    Full and final settlement?
How much if any Written off?
Self managed or charity or other company?

    Thank You!

I've just discovered this amazing thread... and it suddenly came to an end!

However... surely these stories deserve a bump and there may be others who can add inspiration and ideas of how you're either paying off debts or have actually become debt free.

    So: bump! :)

Thanks for bumping it up Cherryfudge.
I do find these short summaries brilliant. It's much easier to get an overview of someone's journey. It often seems like nothing is moving on a day to day or even month to month basis, but the enormity of the achievement is obvious when summarised into a few paragraphs.......
I always felt so ashamed of the situation we were in. I found the diaries so inspiring - they have kept me motivated through ups and downs of my debt journey.
I found this on pinterest the other day.....

Any more stories or updates anyone?
