  • I think High Carb Low Fat Vegan is the way to go if you're looking for a fantastic health changing lifestyle especially if you don't eat much meat and you're supposed to stay away from dairy, it would be perfect.

I watch Freelee the Banana Girl on Youtube and find her health and wellbeing videos really motivational. I'm not a full on fruit eating vegan yet, but definitely considering it.

I also like watching videos from other people who follow a 'Raw Till 4' lifestyle such as:

    Homemade egg fried rice:

    Ingredients:
    1 egg
    2 tsp sesame oil
    2 tbsp vegetable oil
200g/7oz rice (uncooked weight), cooked and left to go cold
100g/4oz frozen peas, defrosted (rinse under warm water to do this quickly)
4 spring onions, finely chopped (I used normal white onion and softened it!)
    1-2 tsp soy sauce
ground white pepper - yes it really does make a difference to black!!

Beat the sesame oil and the egg together in a bowl and leave it to one side.
Heat up the vegetable oil in a pan until it is almost smoking hot and add the cold white rice.... Stir it around for 4-5 minutes until it has heated through.
Add the onions and peas, and keep on stirring the mixture around for 3 minutes
Add the soy sauce and white pepper and stir this in then move the mixture to one side of the pan
On the other side of the pan, add in the beaten egg/sesame oil
Leave it for 15-20 seconds, until you can see that it is beginning to set (the pan should be very hot!) and then use a fork (or chopstick to be authentic) and quickly swirl the egg around to allow it to break up and cook a little more.
Toss it quickly through the rest of the rice/pea mixture for one more minute and it is done!!

It reads more complicated than it is! Tastes fantastic, the sesame oil makes it :D enjoy!! xx

  • I'm feeling pretty down today. Weighed myself this morning and I'd put on the weight I lost, that's pretty much what I've done for the last five years. I know what I need to do but struggle with binging. Will need to buy some fresh fruit and veg to make sure I have healthy stuff to snack on otherwise I eat piles of cookies and crisps.

I've been okay with spending but a little lax in the last week. Payday just seems so far away - just under two weeks and I'm pretty much out of money. Not much I need to buy though which is good.

Just need to be kind to myself and realise this is my first month of REALLY paying attention to money, I'll get better.

No such excuse with the weight issue but trying to remember that while I was eating all the food I cooked I lost weight. With snacks of fruit and not chocolate/crisps I should start to make a dent in it. At the mo it's too serious to worry about moderation, just need to cut out the junk as one cookie is my gateway to binging on a packet, not having one is slightly irritating but doesn't make me binge.

Thank you all for your posts and support, having this forum made thinking about these things much easier. Its easy to make things worse by feeling ashamed and spiralling.

    Hi Belle,
I have put on a pound too :(The change in weather doesn't help - I take sugar in my tea and when it gets cold I end up taking lots more empty calories. Also haven't been moving much last few days as back just has not got better - been over two weeks now.

Was meant to work on my spreadsheet to tweak it to calculate and update the info I need, but didn't get that done either :(
Am planning to go easy this week, then then bulid up momentum again next week.....

    Keep going

  • Thanks for that NOA, it's definitely nice to know that I'm not the only one comfort eating against the cold. It's terrible about your back though, I hope it stops playing up for you soon. I get awful knee inflammation in the colder weather (you'd think I was 88 not 28! :D) and it really does make you want to hibernate.

Guess we've just got to stay on track!

    Hey Belle,

It is the weather. I have probably put on pounds and pounds. I won't tell you how much junk I have eaten but binge doesn't really explain well enough. I look vaguely pregnant, and as I have gone off tea and coffee, colleagues at work are starting to make hints. It is quite embarrassing really.

As for going off the rails with spending.... Likewise. Chalk it up to a bad week and move forward. Count your NSD's, tick them off on a calendar, and put a list together on a notepad in the kitchen or somewhere, of the things you need to buy. You don't miss anything then and stick to the list a bit better saving money.

Tomorrow I am taking homemade broth in to work, the serving costs literally pence, but is really filling and healthy. I am also taking in the leftover stir fried broccoli, green beans, and peas in sesame oil and soy sauce I did for part of dinner tonight as a 'snack'. I found that taking in peeled carrots really helped me with something to munch at work (where I am always hungry) instead of 2 bags of crisps, plus a big bar of choc, and biscuits!

Anyways, don't feel too down. It is the change of seasons hampering the weight loss, and making you want to eat more/worse!

    Chin up :) x

  • Thanks so much, Lilt. It's great knowing others are feeling the same. And those stir-fried greens sound amaaaazing, I've never thought about something like that to snack on but I'll definitely have to try a batch!

The belly is definitely my demon. If I wore anything clingy someone would definitely offer me a seat on the tube, whoops!

The NSDs are definitely the way forward too. I know it's too easy to fritter £££s away spending each day, even just a little, but need to be a little stricter on those fronts!

The greens were indeed excellent. Boiled/steamed them a little first to soften them up, but then chucked them in a big saucepan, with a drizzle of sesame oil and some soy sauce over. The broccoli really soaked it up, but the others were lightly flavoured and so tasty!! Overall, I could eat it as a snack or main meal any day! :D

Glad it isn't just me with a tum! I try not to wear anything clingy, but once a week I have to wear leggings and a fitted-ish t-shirt for my osteo. I cringe all the way there and back. Feel like a whale :(

NSD's are my downfall with the groceries. I know your downfall is the food spend too so thought I would share, as that is the way I beat mine. I am not saying certain items *cough* spiced gingerbread *cough* don't end up in the basket alongside, but I generally stick to my list 99% of the time!

I'm pretty sure covering anything in sesame oil and soy is the best way to make something delicious... if it can't be dipped in chocolate at least. ;)
  • Well lovelies, I'm home sick from work today, probably one of the reasons I've been feeling so down. My poor body battling yucky germs/virus.

Lots of rest and fluids. I struggle with sick days because I feel so guity but as everyone always tells me - you don't get better nearly as quickly as with a day of R&R.

Have a mini Mr S five minutes away so will pop out (prob in pyjamas and big coat!) for fruit and veg to do today.

I see a lot of naps, herbal tea and Pinterest in my future today.
