If you just buy one for 1.00 then won't it return 1.05 (potentially) making them better than free?

If you buy 1 it will compare £1 v 95p, giving an apg for 14.5p.

On A.com I see this..

No, if you buy one, APG will compare £1 v 95p.

If you buy 2 it MAY pick up the multibuy and compare £3 v £1.90, giving £1.29 APG.
