Temporarily Moving House During Mortgage Application

So, I have just had an offer accepted on a house, I have filled in and sent off my mortgage application, but, I have to leave my current flat before the application will be fully processed and contracts exchanged on the new property.

I will be temporarily living with my parents in the mean time and I'm not sure if this will cause any issues for the lender during the process.

Specifically, I need to cancel my council tax, which means I have to give new address details (my parents) which will then mean that these details will appear on the electoral roll. From what I know, the lender will check the electoral roll during the credit checking phase and find that I am no longer living at my most recent address (as shown on my mortgage application).

So my question is; is the likely to cause any major issues?

When filling in the mortgage application it only asked about current and past living arrangements. I knew I would be leaving, but I couldn't see a reason why it would cause any problems until now.

Has anyone got any experience of a situation like this? Or does anybody know what happens in this kind of situation?

Or even, whether the lender will use the electoral roll to determine my current address or whether they will use it just to prove I am a UK resident?

Thanks

  • I don't think cancelling your council tax will affect the electoral roll at all. Registering to vote is what changes it.

Although probably a good idea to tell them your new address in case they write to you! You don't want any letters returned to them as "not at this address", that wouldn't look good.

  • Agreed!

Council Tax adjustments wont effect the electorol role.

You'll be absolutely fine. Good Luck :D

Correct about the voter's roll BUT ...

    1) Move your bank account and any other accounts you can immediately

    2) Redirect your post tomorrow morning

.... I have two near identical cases at the moment that are doing my (or to be more exact - the case managers' individual) head in because the lender must have 'proof of residence'.

... and have just had two cases go though after loads of related grief in similar circumstances.
