Kids Craft Kits

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help. My 10 year old niece would like a craft set/kit for Christmas. Something that includes things like various paper shapes and colours, straws, pom poms, pipe cleaners, etc.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of particularly good craft sets or places to buy them from. As I'm stuck indoors with an ongoing illness, I can't go hunting the high street, but have started looking online.

All help appreciated :)

Thanks,
Tim

  • Oooh, sound great. How about buying one of those boxes with little compartments and filling them yourself. Would give you something nice and square to wrap as well. Have a look on ebay, they have lots and lots of crafting bits.
I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea
  • I like this one from Wilkinson: wilko.com/wilko-craft-bumper-pack/invt/0316723 and I think they have something similar in Poundland although the only things that currently comes to my mind from Poundland are the scrapbooking kits which have some coloured paper and toppers and beads. The wilkinson one looks better though.
  • Somewhere like The Works can have good kits like this and I'm sure Amazon would have something.

I like the idea above of making your own - buy a hobby box and all the bits you know they like and would use from ebay and fill it yourself :)

Do you have a good scrapstore near you? My area has one but it's very expensive, some areas have one where you turn up and can fill a bin bag with crafty goodies for £1 or pay a £5 annual membership. If you do have one, how about a storage box with a promise inside to take her to fill it. https://www.scrapstoresuk.org

  • Have a look at Crafty Crocodile, I'm a Childminder and it's fab for getting bits. If you want to add some other bits they do lots of individual wooden, porcelain bits too for a good price. We have used felt tips on the wood but have got the special pens for the porcelain. The decopatch bits are great too. I got 3 half sheets for a small item and we still have loads left. You can use normal pva glue for them too. If you request the catalogue you get a 10% off discount code too.
    Good luck
  • Thank you all for your wonderful advice and suggestions. You've certainly given me a lot to think about and a lot of sites to check out. :)

Loads of places these days - Home Bargains or B+M if you're near one, Tesco or Asda have growing selections of this sort of stuff as well. Hobbycraft do ready made tubs of bits and bobs like that as well.
