I'm beginning to wonder why it's the kids who get the awards - from the discussions on here it's the parents who do all the research and information gathering! If the awards are supposed to test young people isn't it cheating to do all the work for them?

I'd love the kids to do all the work, but if I had £1 for every parent who sent me a furious e-mail or letter assuring me that it's my fault when their child doesn't pass, I'd be able to retire at 36! A little common sense would go a long way, but exhaustive suggestions and lists save my sanity in the interim!
  • Thank you everyone for your great suggestions!

They arent allowed nuts, someone has allergies. She loves porridge so we are onto a winner for breakfast along with a bagel as they wont squash in rucksack. They need to menu plan in groups of 8.
Sleeping bag has to be packed inside rucksack and inside plastic or a dri sac. Needs to be a 3 season one as well so is seems to take up half her rucksack! Also on the list 2 fleeces and a thick jumper and two pairs of trousers. They are only going for one night and this doesnt include what they will be wearing on the day. Feel 3 extra fleeces a bit excessive....

  • Back when I did my bronze, I had one of these for my main meal.

It cooked really nicely in a little camping pan on the trangia. Other people took a tin of soup and cooked pasta in it or things like tinned stew and instant mash.
