I can claim for interest to be paid on the mrtg for a short amount of time but i will not be able to pay it when this ends
This isn't correct. If you are getting Carers Allowance, you will be entitled to Income Support however old your child is. Income Support usually ends at aged 5, but yours won't as your child is disabled: .https://www.gov.uk/income-support/eligibility
If you are getting Income Support, you will be entitled to Support for Mortgage Interest payments and these will not be time limited. See https://www.gov.uk/support-for-mortgage-interest/what-youll-get
I think you should go to your local Citizens Advice and talk this lot through, as the interactioon between benefits and your debts is complicated: http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/index/getadvice.htm0 -
Before you make any decisions run your circumstances through http://www.turn2us.org.uk/default.aspx to make sure you know what you are entitled to.
There are NO time limits for MIS if you are claiming income support.
Have you considered speaking to CAB to make a claim to the British Gas Energy Trust http://www.britishgasenergytrust.org.uk/ for the gas/electric arrears to be cleared?0 -
Thank you to all who have taken the time to post advice, i have contacted stepchange and they have advised to contact shelter re housing and mrgt, also cab to see about benefit entitlement with my circumstances as its an absolute minefield if you have never claimed before.
I never expected to end up on benefits and hopefully it wont be long term, just until things are sorted and we are back on our feet. Many thanks to everyone.0
