No weekends? The fruit is hanging heavy on the bushes and trees ATM.
I was really shocked in Finchley (pretty urban) last year to see an apple tree on the street with fruit littered all around it which was simply rotting - no-one was collecting it.
I agree the street market thing sounds a bit desperate, but still remember the week I happened to be in the street market area in St Albans and picked up about 5 KILOS of tangerines - they made fantastic wine!!!!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
FyreWyrm - good plan batman. I shall have an emergency £20 in the biscuit jar (or somewhere)
No fruit trees about where I am. I'd probably end up picking an apple that would give me the squits no doubt!0 -

None of our apples are poisonous, not even crab apples. You can cook them just fine. The trees are laden down at the moment, you could go get some if you have a walk around. There are usually blackberry bushes, but still, if you dont feel comfortable doing that, there is an argument against since blackberries could potentially be mistaken for nightshade. I'm sure however you could get fruit from the local market without too much trouble. A few pieces a week are sufficient for your vitamin needs.
The rest is up to you. Come back if you need to chat some more when it gets a little dark in a few weeks.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

Old Style board... I'm not sure what you mean? Do you have a link?
I've put some things on the buy and sell on facebook for the odd £5 yesterday but so far no interest.
I had a massive overhaul of clothes a couple of months ago on ebay so I could get some maternity clothes - so I don't really have anything else to sell
Hi,
The old style board is if you go onto the main page of the forum with all of the different sections and scroll down you will see in the home and travel section a heading of Old style.
If you sit down over the weekend and go though all cupboards, fridge freezer and write down what you have the lovely people will be able to help with a plan. with the £5.50 from tesco, they do cheap frozen veg for 75p, if you have any meat (I think you said you had some chicken and/or stock cube) with a little water you can make a stew/soup either in a slow cooker or on the hob. you can either batch cook this using all of it at once and freezing the rest. they also do frozen fruit i think it was around 80p for a bag which would do a couple of days portions of fruit.
You'll be fine, it can be done you just need to be organised and have some quick bits in ie the rice and veg for when you are hungry or frozen portions in.
You maybe able to get a small advance at work just speak to HR and see if this is possible however I think they take extra out of your pay for this privilege. Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0 -
i would talk to stepchange as they take your money begining of the month but dont pay creditors til the end of month, i have had a payment go out then had it returned to me, i wouldnt suffer poverty of no food to pay creditors...remember they are not a priority .goal for 2014....i will manage money better ..must resist shopping..............:A0

Subscribing to this thread to see how you get on
I am sure you will be able to do it. It's surprising how much we all spend on food and shopping trips we don't actually need. We are all guilty of it..me probably more than most! All the little luxuries sand items we throw into the trolley - most of it not *needs* but wants.
FireWyrm talks a lot of sense, will all the items you already have in, and a little imagination - Im prettu sure you will be just fine.
Good Luck!0 -
Hi,
I agree with the comments about calling Step Change, but do it sharpish! I think they distribute the cash from this weekend...
If you have a serious sweet tooth (like me) when I got truly brassic I bought a reduced bread loaf and froze itthen when I got a craving I got a slice, toasted it and scraped a bit of jam on it.
Ok, so it's not glamorous but you can eat it cold (ie. take it to work for a snack) and it's cheap! If you don't have jam, supermarkets often have jars for like 50p but remember to look on the reduced isles!
P.s. I like cold baked beans too... I prefer them to hot LOL but then I like cold lumpy custard and almost solid porridge too

once you realise how little you actually 'need' and that it's 'want' you may even notice your food bill drop in the coming months!
best of luck to you, but definately have a wee stash on the side to stop this from happening again.
