Paypal phishing email

I get these all the time and they're usually very easy to spot. This one was too, but there was a difference that I thought was worth passing on. It came addressed to me by name. It said the standard: "Your account has been limited" due to incorrect log in attempts.
However, one of the main ways to spot a scam is that it normally does not address the sender by name. Usually it either doesn't address the sender at all, or says something generic like "Valued customer." So if they are in the process of finding a way around this and are able to send phishing emails to targeted names, it could make them harder to spot - should they be more cleverly written than the one just sent to me.
At the risk of being patronising, I would say that even if an email looks genuine from Paypal, a bank, and so on, don't click on the links in the email. Instead go to your account via Google, or your normal route, and check there if there is anything to resolve.

I get loads of those and always delete them straight away. If I want to check my account I login direct to the site. Sometimes I check My account to make sure it is ok and it is always fine - so obviously spam!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

Thanks for posting tho Blulu. There are vulnerable people out there who do need guidance where spamming is concerned both online and by telephone and post.:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

I also get them from banks who I don't even bank with saying I need to confirm my account details! I also get them from the so-called Inland Revenue saying I am due a tax refund so could I confirm my account details! Sadly, there will be people who fall for these scams!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

Guys, I wasn't writing just to say I got a phishing scam. I get loads of those and have done since before I started comping. The reason I posted about it here is because I got one today addressing me by name. That's something different, and could potentially make them harder to spot.

I have had a few addressed to me too and still delete them. Any emails to do with my accounts I NEVER click on them. I think spammers are becoming more clever - worrying though how they have found our names and emails. I blame some comping companies who have published our details in the past. If any blog comp requires entrants to leave an email with a comment (and many do), I never leave mine.:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

Surely nobody is stupid enough to use their banking email for comping.0
