wanted: interesting burger ideas please

morning,

have people coming tomorrow for evening meal, one is vegetarian.
Thinking of HM burgers, lovely mixed salad and chips.
My HM burgers are just beef mince, onion, breadcrumbs and egg.
Any ideas to make them a bit more interesting?

thank you

These are delicious vegetarian burgers for your vege. We love them ( we are not veggies but eat a lot of meat free meals and dislike meat replacers)

They also freeze really well but my guess is some of your meat eaters will want them, they smell and taste really good. :)
  • There are lots of different ways you could jazz up your burgers -
add an oxo cube, splash of Worcestershire sauce, herbs, paprika or spices.

How about moulding the burger mix around a piece of mozzarella or blue cheese to make a stuffed burger?

A Girl Called Jack's carrot, cumin and kidney bean burgers are lovely, and veggie too.

  • I add mustard to my mince these days and think it improves the flavour a lot.

    That's how I make mine ;).

Would use blue cheese but no one else likes it and complains about the smell :( philistines!
  • I'd suggest sliced halloumi and aubergines, griddled. The veggie guest can enjoy with pesto, and meat eaters can use to augment their burgers.
  • Relish or chutney spooned onto the burgers before serving. There's a great recipe for sweetcorn relish somewhere on the preservers thread.

  • Oh dear Richard! Bit of blue is lovely in a burger. Could you try them with Cambozola - tell them it's Brie and I don't think they'd notice the difference!

  • I love BBQ sauce on a burger. You can make your own, there are lots of recipes on the interweb (I haphazardly mix red sauce, brown sauce, mustard, brown sugar, soy sauce, worchester sauce and smoked paprika in a saucepan until it tastes good!). I bought a Heinz sweet and sticky BBQ sauce recently and have been having it on everything, it would be lovely on burgers.

You could try using half beef, half pork mince to make the burgers, and have grated apple in there too (along with breadcrumbs and sage).
