what a man he was a legend:j0

He epitomised Northern Ireland from the 70s until the early millennium. I disagreed with his politics but he was an incredible politician and it was a brave decision to go into government with Sinn Fein. It was the right decision in my view and I admire him for changing his mind. That took courage.Stercus accidit0

I didn't know the DUP was formed before 1905?
Sinn Fein in its latest incarnation. There have been four Sinn Feins, one of which is now Fianna F!il. Another became republican clubs, became workers' party. It's a bit like dr who.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

I don't understand you. How has there been four parties called Sinn Fein? Fianna Fail was started up with mostly Sinn Fein people but the party still kept going, even standing for seats in Westminster after the country was divided. The only time there was real confusion was when they split in 1970 and I suppose you could argue that Sinn Fein now is really what I remember being Provisional Sinn Fein. It's still the same people. Or at least it was until they got too old for politics. But really if we go back to what you're saying, that the DUP was the cause of Sinn Fein forming, Provisional Sinn Fein started in 1970 but the DUP didn't start until 1971. So why are you saying that the DUP started Sinn Fein? That's what I really don't understand.0 -
I didn't write it, but I take the poster meant Sinn Fein nua didn't really kick off till the mid 80s, with their extremism possibly seen as a response to paisley's. Let's face it, both Sinn Fein and dup were seen as hotheads by their own communities up until recent years. Back when I started working with the public around 1990 or so, my workmates and I used to get a bit of crack from playing spot the shinner / paisleyite among the customers - the confrontational, demanding, combative angry heads.
I know Sinn Fein had their supposed cead blianna back in 2005, but the only thing 100 years old was the name.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0
