BR & Tax Credits

Hi,
I went BR not long after my partner and step-children moved in with me. The expense pushed me over the top financially.
I should soon be expecting to fill out another SOA. Which, hasn't changed much at all. However, we still haven't claimed Tax Credits. If we do claim, we expect our income to then go over the threashold where the OR is going to want some money each month.
Are tax credits considered in this way, or, like, child benefit, is this disregarded as "for the benefit of a third party"?
many thanks
Tony

I think I found the answer on:

However, it will be my partnet claiming the credit, not myself, will this need to be declared. If it is, will it be taken into account?
