First visit recommendations - Home Bargains + B&M + Dunelm Mill ??

Hi all,

Tomorrow I am making my first visit to all of these shops -
Home Bargains
B & M
Dunelm Mill

Do you have any advice of what to look out for in any of these shops ? Any special bargains or any particular places to look in for bargains ?

Feel a bit daft really - as I am getting quite excited for my trip !!!:j:j

Thanks for your help
xx

Personally I have only been to Dunelm and Home Bargains but basically they are completely different shops so its difficult to compare.

Home Bargains sell anything from food/drink to toys, toiletries, household items and bedding etc. All at brilliant prices. When I go there, I always stock up on Nicky toilet rolls - they are very cheap but great quality.

Dunelm sells furniture, curtains, bedding, fabric, lighting, ornaments etc. so essentially bigger items but still fantastic value, Hope you have a lovely shopping spree! Do let us all know what bargains you get!!!

Get a trolley before you go into Home Bargains as i always think i dont need much and dont get a trolley then have to go back out of the shop to get one.I love Home Bargains and B&M is ok but i prefer HB. Dunelm Mills is completely different than B&M an HB
  • As others have said, Dunelm is completely different to HB and B&M. Dunelm have a set of scissors, three pairs for £1.99, with various patterns along the blades. They are good value and I have several pairs at home and at Brownies. My oldest set is about five or six years old, and still in regular use.

At the moment, our branch of Dunelm has some good reductions on silicon cake moulds. I don't bake, but they might be useful to you. A teddy bear mould was 62p, and so was a set of six smaller cake moulds.

HB have allsorts. Toiletries, food, stationery, soft furnishings.... Most are good prices. You're bound to find some Christmas presents while you're in there. They sometimes have stuff with names on, but they are the remainders bought up from other stores, so it's a case of looking through a basket and being lucky. Last year, my daughter bought a pair of socks for her boyfriend, with his name on, for 39p - a great stocking filler. We've also had pens, keyrings, table confetti, flannels, door plaques and money boxes with names on, priced between 10p and 49p.

Nicky toilet roll is a must. Three ply, decent loo roll. It's £2 for nine rolls or £3.99 for 18 rolls. Nicky kitchen roll is good too, but I can't remember how much that is.

I bought a coffee pot last week for £4.99. It's stainless steel and 1.5 litres. Great value.

B&M is ok, but not my favourite. Food is usually a good price though, except maybe multipacks of chocolate (they're cheaper when on offer in the supermarkets). This week I bought a fridge pack of Heinz spaghetti hoops for £1 (the large plastic jar). Bottled drinks are good value compared to supermarkets and other shops.

I've just bought a small fibre optic lamp for £1.99 and a mini star projector for the same price, both as stocking fillers for my son. There were a few hardbacks for £1, but none that I wanted.

There are threads on HB and B&M on the Grabbit board - might be worth a look.

Let us know how you get on.
  • Thanks for all your help - its very kind.

I didn't buy too much today as it was one of those shopping trips where there is just too much to see that you end up buying nothing!
It was really useful though and now I've been, and I know where things are, I will be prepared for my next visit.

I did buy some Nicky toilet roll as it comes so highly recommended I thought we had to try it!!

    thanks again x
