Sainsbury's one-off fee for grocery deliveries

Options
Sorry if this has been covered already, but I couldn't find anything on my search.

So, I have started doing online shopping again, and I usually get free delivery (as I up my order so I buy more than £100 and schedule delivery from after 2pm on Tues-Thurs).

However, a leaflet came in my last delivery, which I had to pay £5 for delivery, as there were no free slots left (a bit of poor planning on my side) and it says:

12 month anytime pass option now £75
12 month midweek (tues-thurs) £55.

It also says that if the pass expires and I haven't used its value, they'll voucher the value of the difference back to me.

So I am tempted .....

I work from home, so am available to receive deliveries all day every day. I cannot leave the house easily during the week because I have clients / children with me, and I absolutely hate doing big shops in the supermarket on weekends / the evening.

Comments

  • I wouldn't as I tend to shop more at Aldi's. But if it's your regular supermarket, and cost effective as you'd use it, I don't see a problem with it.
    Saving, decluttering and doing alright.

If you prefer the service or quality of produce from Sainsbury's to other supermarkets fine but their prices and delivery charges tend to be higher than rivals.

    ASDA 4 months Anytime : £18 (£40 minimum order). One-off deliveries from £1 (£25 minimum order).

Tesco 12 months: £30 pa mid-week, £60 pa Any Time (£25 minimum order) and you can use Club Card points towards next pass making it even cheaper. One-off deliveries from £1.

Waitrose: Free delivery (£60 minimum order)

Tesco price matches* ASDA, Sainsbury, Morrisons. ASDA beats* its rivals' prices. Waitrose price matches* Tesco. Sainsbury does no price matching for online orders.

Tesco also offers refund in the form of a voucher at the end of a year if you spend more on a pass than you would have done paying for the individual deliveries.

    * Subject to Ts&Cs

Some people report bad experiences with various companies but I have been happy overall with Tesco and ASDA. (However, I buy fresh produce in store rather than having it delivered) I have only had one delivery from Sainsbury's so I cannot fairly compare.

You would be committed to Sainsbury's for the year. If you decide you want to try someone else then you would be losing the value of the free delivery you have paid for.

    I wouldn't do it.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

So you wouldn't pay more than you would have individual deliveries though you would have to wait until the end of the year to get back the difference...in the form of a voucher.
