Hi all,
Well I dug out 2 of my slow cookers to do a batch cook session as I actually have 3 whole days off in a row.
Imagine my disappointment to find my big boy 6.5 lt morphs Richard one has a crack in the pot.
So being OS. I looked on line to find a replacement. Only to find that one to fit it would cost a whopping £39.99 . I can replace the whole damn thing for £25.00 . But that's just wasteful
. Now the crack seems to only be on the outside, so my question to you amazing people is..
Would you still use it? Would you line the crock with tin foil or similar.?
Or am I just going to have live with using the middle sized one and the little one?
Yes I have a slow cooker fetish..:o:cool::cool:

No, I'd check on ebay see if there is a spare pot.. if not it would go in the recycling and I'd get a new one. It is not worth risking wasting a huge pot of food over.. or contaminating your food with bacteria which has been growing in the broken crockery.. I have bit of a thing going on about germs in the porous crockery.. chipped mugs, cracked plates etc..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

I agree - 'chipped crockery carries disease' as my Mother used to say.
On a safety note, if the contents were to leak onto the electrics you would be in a right mess.0 -
Bin it. I wouldn't risk the spillage on electrics never mind wasted food.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0

Bite the bullet honey and get a new one not worth losing your food (either from the pot or via salmonella)PITA I know but its just not worth it .Ask around maybe a friend or relation has one sitting at the back of their cupboards or try freegal first. Lots of folk buy them and never use them after the first few times .Can't imagine why not. I have two and they are both used all the time, one is slightly smaller and my DD gave it to me when her family started to expand.so I do smaller cassroles in that and I have a larger oval one that cooks chicken to perfection.0

I wouldn't. The crack WILL go right through, it's just a question of when. Not just a problem for the food that's in it, there's a small but significant electrical risk there too.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Aw, I was hoping that someone would say that's it would be fine and to keep using it! Rather hopeful of me as I have also just discovered that I have a thin, not-leaking-at-the-moment crack in my slow cooker pot *sigh*. It's the same one as yours, too OP.
Looking at Argos and Currys, I can't see these for sale anymore - they now are aluminium and non-stick pots. I think I would prefer a crockery one. Argos do a Cookworks 6.5l one for £19.99, but don't know this brand. Has anyone got one of these and could recommend? The reviews are rather divided on if it is any good!
*edit* - Sadly, the Cookworks slow cookers are out of stock at all my local shopsJan NSD 4/15

I would also buy a new one, but don't forget to keep the lid in case of accidents. Also don't forget to keep the temperature knob in case of breakages.0

Mine is an oval Cookworks one from Argooose and its fine ,but then its been used several times a week in the past few years and I find it great..If you can hang on often as the winter sets in Sainsbobs or MrT often do 'special offers ' on SC's0

You say the crack is only on the outside.
Is pot itself cracked or just the glaze?I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
You can buy slow cooker liners, might be worth looking at
