Remedy for Athletes Foot

Around 6 months ago my right foot appeared to develop red blotches on the top with skin peeling of between the 3rd and 4th toes on both feet. First I dismissed it as rubbing sores. However, they were itchy, persistent but weren't really painful like sores. Then a few months back I read a post on a forum about people not looking after their feet, someone mentioned athletes foot and it suddenly dawned on me that was what it was, no doubt caught at the local swimming baths.
One old remedy is to bathe your feet in vinegar. I had recently purchased some large containers of vinegar for weed killer so I gave them a few soaks with this, reusing it on the garden. I also powdered by feet with talc to keep them dry before putting my socks on each morning. Immediately I saw an improvement, but it's taken 3 soaks over several weeks to remove the fungus entirely.
