Brita filter gauge

The water filter gauge on my kettle stopped working so I contacted Brita. Not only did they replace the item free of charge but they also included a spare. They didn't ask for proof of purchase or the purchase date.
An internet search for the same item leads to one supplier only and they charge £4.48 incl postage. Obviously I didn't purchase from their site so I was unable to warn others by means of a customer review.
