Tesco Clubcard Boost - not all it seems

Recently used the boost offer to get a voucher for the Mercure hotel group. Wanted to check availability so phoned Mercure direct and asked about price and availability. The standard rate for the one night stay including a spa package was £214. Then went through Tesco's reservations booking line and was told that to use the voucher the price for the stay was £299. I did question the price and informed him that the price with Mercure or all other reservation companies for the same room and package was £214. The 40% increase levied by Tesco means the whole 'Boost' promotion is a farce. Better to put your voucher in the bin and book direct or don't even bother giving Tesco your custom

It may be the hotel chain putting the price up, not Tesco, as when I booked a holiday with Virgin we paid the online price (not higher brochure price as I was expecting) and it was the same price using Tesco vouchers or not.
Although when we booked with Hilton it said in the T&Cs that the Tesco vouchers could only be used off the standard rate, not any online or promotional rate but the standard price didn't go up any further just because we were using clubcard vouchers.
