What I want to know is how many people are at issue. Anyone know how many jobseekers a year claim the full 6 months of contribution based and then can't claim income based JSA before of savings? Either a number or a proportion. And ideally how many of those are near the 6-16k rather than higher. I would also like to know how many spend up their savings and then become eligible?
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Google "data matching". HMRC have details of all bank accounts and similar in the country with access to similar data from most countries in the EU, the USA and many other regions of the world. If the name of an account holder matches that of a benefit claimant then they will look more closely...

So you're saying when anyone with a bank account makes a claim for benefits they 'look more closely'?

    Don't be ridiculous.

Someone out of work on benefits faces homelessness. You mention in one of your posts that they'd just get given a council house! Not likely. There's waits of years in some areas for social housing. I know because I've been on my council's housing list for some years. And I have a health condition that gives me some medical priority points.

And if you're a single, healthy childless person, you'd be waiting a very long for a council house.

I wouldn't have a problem with means testing if it was something like 30k on the top of your property (or property value above a certain level would be counted as well). But having 6-16k, when you have no house, no car, no income, no nothing, just those bloody 6-16k, doesn't make anybody a wealthy person.

Mainly if somebody who has just invested everything into his newly built posh house worth a million, with a Picasso on the wall and diamonds on his wife's neck, and left only 5k in his bank, then lost his job as a lawyer, can now claim everything (just a fake scenario, but officially, this person would be "in need" - and this is ridiculous). But it seems you agree with the Government on this.

Why don't you take your PPR like a man instead of constantly creating user names in order to post contentious drivel that you just know that certain people will always reply to?

I wouldn't mind so much if this thread had anything to do with employment, jobseeking or training but, being a mind numbingly dull troll, it doesn't matter to you as long as you get a few bites.

I am constantly creating user names??? Take your medicine dude and calm down

Ok, JSA has nothing to do with jobseeking. Brilliant!!! You're winning a prize in logic :T

I don't think the stats exist, they could be requested under the FOIA but it is likely to be refused on the grounds that collating the information is too costly.
