In 2013 I bought a 2012 Seat from SERE but I was not impressed with their after sales service,I got a letter from them recently telling me that a 2nd year service is due and if I don't have it done I break my warranty, do I have to use a Seat dealer ? or would my" backstreet garage" who I have 100% faith in be acceptable

If you get it done by a reputable workshop who use authorised parts and provide evidence for your records your warranty should be intact. However if any problem arises and you try to claim on warranty you may find the manufacturer wriggling - especially if you are depending on SERE to carry out the rectification and process the warranty claim for you.

I would recommend you get a quote from backstreet, including details of the materials to be used. Take that along to SERE and show it to them, ask them for a competitive quote, and advise them that you want a no frills service, no courtesy car, no need to wash or valet your car, just a basic 2nd yr service. It is the manufacturers who make the dealer add in things like a wash and valet to make you feel the experience is a classy one from a premium brand, but you still end up paying premium prices for the service.
