Can you get access to a cash & Carry? I run Guides, and my warrent enables me to get a day pass for Makro and Booker. For my daughter's 18th I was able to get catering quiches, gateaux and cheescakes, plus things like 1kg tubs of potato salad and coleslaw, and those individual butter pats. They also do huge platters of ready cooked meats.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

There are some great ideas on here, there's nothing worse than a 'beige buffet' where all the food is brown/beige! :rotfl: Adding garnishes and salads really helps to make the food look much nicer.
Another idea is the usual cheese and pineapple on sticks - but use a whole pineapple to display them. Get one with impressive looking leaves on the top then cut a slice off the base so that is stands up straight. Thread a cube of cheese and a cube of pineapple onto each cocktail stick, but into the middle of the cocktail stick so there is a bit of stick sticking out at either end. Push one end into the pineapple leaving a bit of stick for the guests to use to pull it out. If you cover the whole pineapple it looks very good.
How about a mixed platter of mini samosas, spring rolls etc? You can display them around a dip of some sort that complements the food.
Mini sausage, mini pork pies and savoury eggs go down well, but cut them in half and mix them up on the platters adding cherry tomatoes for colour.Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0 -
me again! presentation...cheap!
If you aren't carrying stuff around cover the entire table in tin foil and put foil boxes of differing heights on the table then either put food direct on the foil or on dishes.... foil sparkles.. but you could do it in any other colour scheme -any other paper -- but dont forget the boxes! if you put food direct on table (just use greaseproof underneath) you could do an enormous 21 in food (or similar) and 'frame it with crisps' just let your imagination go.
Oh bowls of smarties - they're fun ...put a few party poppers around about too (better check with pub)..any blow up photos of a little sister? when little? put a few in on the door? in the toilet?
let us know how it goes!0
