Vanish or generic oxy stuff?

We have a lot of white shirts in our household, 4 DD's college, PE and work uniforms. Some of them are looking a bit grubby, and even have perspiration/deodorant marks. I have used the generic oxy powder to soak and it does improve it but I haven't managed to get them back to like new.

Is the branded Vanish a better buy?

Should I just boil wash them all? would that damage PE kit with sewn on emblem?

What is the difference between oxy powder and soda crystals?
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

    Washing soda is sodium carbonate
Vanish and generic Oxi is a type of bleach - http://www.rsc.org/learn-chemistry/resources/chemistry-in-your-cupboard/vanish/1
I always use generic now but I've used Vanish in the past and haven't noticed much difference
The washing label will give you maximum washing temperature - I don't think modern clothes fabrics will withstand a boiling
  • I've got some CK white vest's which have faded, looking for suggestions getting them back white before investing in some new ones.
  • I used to do hubby's shirts (with logo) on the usual quick wash but they have been getting a bit grubby, so now I do them and any other white bits on a 30o wash with some soda crystals and soap powder and they are much better.
I reckon it just takes a longer wash to get the greese/dirty neck stuff out.

Whilst on the subject, I picked up some of these to try. They were 99p for 5 tabs. They certainly perked up some dingy white poly cotton sheets, also seemed to crisp up the fabric a bit.

I've never used a generic oxy product, so like the OP would be interested to learn if it would have a similar effect?

    Any recommendations?
