ITV missed call

Hi,

My wife received two missed calls today with the number on her phone saying ITV. she rang back later in the day but this dialled to 488.

Does anyone know if this is real or a scam?

there was no number listed, where the number should be it said ITV.

When she hit call, 488 showed on screen and the automated voice said "Sorry this number is not availiable on this network..."

Does she have ITV'S number in her phonebook?

No it comes up in the call list as ITV then underneath as Unsaved. She has nothing under I in her contact list. Which is why I asked is it real?

itv use different numbers and after time they are recycled through the system

what you might have saved as itv last year might now be a ppi call centre

You do get phone systems that make calls over the internet which can send the caller ID along with the number ... so they could send the information along with the call that it is ITV (and it would show on your phone as ITV, ether or not you have them in your contacts)... in the same way you can get a text from a company that will say it's from the company, even though you don't have that number in your contact list.
Casino / betting spam text use this a lot.

Just out of interest, 488 is the number you get when you type ITV into your phone keypad. (Assuming phone is traditional, with abc being on key 2, def on key 3, etc rather than a smartphone with a querty keyboard.)

Hmmm, other winners from ITV have always had a number show up, if it calls 488 then I don't think that's ITV. Their numbers are 0207 something
