I think this relates to phone comps, the BBC web site say:-
The BBC is to suspend all competitions following an inquiry which unearthed a string of editorial breaches.
Further malpractice has been found in programmes including Comic Relief, which director general Mark Thompson called "totally unacceptable". Mr Thompson
All phone-related competitions on BBC TV and radio will cease from 0000 BST on Thursday, while interactive and online competitions will be taken down as soon as possible. The BBC Trust said it was "deeply concerned that significant failures of control and compliance within the BBC have compromised the BBC's values of accuracy and honesty".Rgds Merv0 -

Whether they charge or not doesn't matter if they've been lying about winners.:j0 -
Aha! that must be why I've never won anything from the BBC (but there again never win from lots of other companies either!).0

All those home videos, all that music, all those film trailers downloaded from the web: if it's on your PC or Mac, use Apple TV and you can watch them right now on your television.
You've got podcasts, maybe you've even got a Freeview TV tuner in your computer, and now it's as if they're in your living room on that gorgeous TV set of yours.
This sleek, tiny box uses your wireless or wired home network to connect to your computer - and if a friend pops by with a laptop, it'll play any video on that too.
It's the biggest thing since the hard disk PVR and you can win one courtesy of Universal Playback and Radio Times. One lucky winner gets an Apple TV - and, brilliantly, one runner-up gets the best new crime DVDs: Law & Order the complete season five and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season three. Released for the first time on 23 July, these two packed boxed sets cost £44.99 apiece.
The longest-running police series still on American TV, Law & Order has been a remarkable hit for seventeen years, but the fifth season is famous for how it saw the departure of star Chris Noth in a typically stylish exit.
For a chance to win, all you need to do is correctly answer the multiple-choice questions opposite. The closing date is Wednesday 15 August.
Please note that this competition is open to UK residents aged 18 or over only.

Shopping Tips
Don't spend five pounds to dry clean a shirt. Donate it to the charity shop instead. They'll clean it and put it on a hanger. Next morning buy it back for two pounds.0 -
Just seen report on BBC 10pm News, if you can't trust the BBC then who can you trust? How much abuse of on-line comps is there elsewhere?
Obviously from the numerous winners, including myself, on MSE there are plenty of honest sites but you just never know.
Here's a big thanks to all those genuine competitions, as for the others you are disgusting cheats and fraudsters.0
