During the interview it became clear that I would be required to deliver a Sarbannes Oxley compliance programme in a solo capacity and report directly to the CEO who was taking a 'keen interest' in it!

They sought someone who would commit to a 1 year fixed contract period that the applicant would promise they wouldn't break (so I assume it had no notice period clause in it). I can't remember the exact rate as they were pretty much offering an ordinary permanent salary for a fixed term contract, think the role worked out around £100- £150 a day?!

Sometimes you do have to wonder.

Worked in change/ project management in the financial services space for longer than I am willing to admit to and a fair proportion of that as a consultant/ contractor and so on a fairly healthy day rate.

Had a phone call from a job agent not that long ago looking for a perm PM, 10 years experience of projects, 10 years experience of financial services, ideally insurance, ideally MBA or ACCA, Prince2 and reporting directly to the COO of the company to take on all change/ project work.

Was never told the size of the company but believe it was fairly small based on where it was, the fact I hadnt heard of any big insurer/ broker where it was and the fact that a Project Manager was going to be reporting directly to a COO.

    Salary? £20,000, £25,000 at a stretch

I laughed. Agents response was "do you think its a bit low?". I said that if he has to ask that question then they've hired the wrong agent.

Yes, I'm a bit out of the loop for current permy and contract Project Support and PM rates.

However, I was paid around 20k for a project admin position and 25k for a junior project coordinator role around 15-20 years ago.

I expect due to the recession perhaps those support role salaries are now static but 20k for an experienced PM role is ridiculous.

Yes, in FS in London you'd be looking minimum £55k-£60k and that would only be with good package, serious career development opportunity and/or is someone's first move up in this level

My partner is a PM. Standard salary is about £45k - £60k. Contractors can get a daily rate of around £450.
