Flower pot heaters

The flower pot heaters that I have seen on YouTube either have one pot with the hole covered by foil, a coin etc, or a metal bolt with nuts, washers on etc.
Does anyone think this idea would be ok or would the inner pot get too hot?

I know these may not give out much heat but they may be worth trying should the SHTF and you don't have any form of heating in winter.
