Is it possible to see train fares by the month?

Hi folks,

I wish to travel from Grange-over-Sands to Colwall for a couple of days anytime in October or November. Is there are site which will let me see the cost of thr train fare by the month rather than by the day? At the moment I'm visiting the British Rail site and then using the edit button but it's taking forever. I'm on a limited income so price is really important.

Skyscanner does it for flights so I'm hoping such a thing exists for trains.

Thanks for your help.

This website shows you the complete fare list available for the journey you want to take.

however all the Advance purchase tickets are controlled by a quota so without knowing exact dates its very difficult to know whats left.

I dont think there is anything in th epublic domain either which shows how much is left of any one tier price.

Thanks for replying and your help.

Because I'm retired I can literally go on the day that's cheapest. It's amazing that skyscanner can do this for planes but it's not possible to look at a whole month's prices for trains in one easy action.

Still I do have time to do the research one day at a time!!!!

No use for the OP, I'm afraid, but in case others are interested, the Virgin Best Fare finder shows you available fares for multiple times/ days - but it only allows you to select Virgin stations / routes

    http://www.farefinder.virgintrains.co.uk/

(it asks you to suggest a date but displays days either side and allows you to move back and forth )

<Edit> - Having now looked at the route the OP will need to take it appears to involve G-O-S to Lancaster, Lancaster to Birmingham New street and BNS to Colwall.

The Virgin farefinder does cover the middle stage of the journey so may be helpful to the OP either to consider split ticketing or to indicate what are liekly to be the cheapest fares for the whole journey.

Using National Rail Enquiries I found fares for £11* each way on the 8th and 11th of October random pick. I very much doubt there will be cheaper as I think there is a minimum price of £10 on the advanced fares, but to answer your original question there doesn't seem to be a feature to help those flexible on date NRE used to suggest cheaper days to travel if you asked it to but no more it seems...

The transpenine express website does have tabs to check ticket prices for the previous or next day once you have done the 1st search so this may be a little quicker but still not what you were after.

    * I'm not suggesting you should travel on these dates, I suspect the fares will be available on several days but if you can work out the minimum price it will save endless searching for a better deal.
