Sandwich toaster with dishwasher safe plates

Options
Any recomendations for a sandwich toaster that the handle won't break and the non-stick coating won't peel off the hot plates?

My son is a very poor eater (would rather play than eat), but will finish cheese and ham toasties, and my old ( 10 years plus) one is on its last legs.

Personally, I don't think you can do better than a George Foreman and if you are only using it for toasting sandwiches you don't need to wash the plates - wipe them over whilst still warm with kitchen paper. All non-stick surfaces, even if it is stated 'dishwaher safe' deteriorate over time if put in the dishwasher. The chemicals in dishwasher tabs/liquid are really too harsh for non-stick. If necessary to wash them just rinse under the tap - I have never put non-stick things in a dishwasher and I have pans and frying pans as old as the hills and the surfaces are just about as good as new.

You could also use toasting bags to keep the plates pristine if you really can't bear washing by hand.

I have to agree with LadyDee. My old toastie machine died suddenly and I had a brainwave to use the George Foreman, its brilliant, a wipe with kitchen roll cleans it as long as its done when its still warm.

The toasties really are better and you don't put the butter on the outside like in toastie machines.
Just make an ordinary sandwich and chuck it in.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I just use the toastie bags in a toaster - normally toast what will be the insides first without the bags (couple of slices in each slot, butter the toasted sides... you guessed that).
