Afraid I can,t help you even though occasionally in the past I've suffered a similar problem without finding the cause. I normally use a low temperature wash but more recently have been washing at a higher temperature to get rid of a "smelly drains pond" which sometimes emanates from the machine although I don,t think the brown marks were in any way connected with this.0

I've noticed these too, mainly on white polycotton sheets. I even wondered if they were scorch marks from being dried on a hot radiator, but they're not. I can't budge the marks either. Mystery!0
