Shop around, Martyn will give you the rundown shortly.

Oh dear, I'm getting a reputation. My mother warned me about this. :o

Hiya hukucUt1 ....... Oh blimey ..... can I call you H? And welcome.

Lots of us on here happy to discuss quotes, deals etc etc, but to save a little time this morning, can I suggest you read a couple of recent(ish) threads on prices deals etc for background:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5012667

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4880251

and you may also find the PV FAQ useful:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3872445

Then ask/chat away. Also, you may want to let folk know your rough location (nothing too specific) as they can then recommend/suggest installers they've dealt with.

    Best of luck, speak soon.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Installers should be MCS registered:

    http://www.microgenerationcertification.org/

The aim when the FIT scheme was introduced was that MCS registration would ensure that installers were reputable and would not sell Solar PV like Double Glazing salesman of 'yesteryear'. Or indeed solar thermal(hot water) a few years earlier.

Instead we get report after report of salesmen reverting to type and charging outrageous prices and/or schemes to rip off customers.

'Two free panels' indeed. Were you offered any other 'incentives' for paying more than double the going rate?

what happens if the panels dont produce enough for you requirements

Not certain what you mean by that statement. Solar PV is not intended to meet your electrical consumption; for one thing it doesn't generate after dusk.

The main financial incentive is the subsidies received and in addition you can use as much of your generated electricity as you can.

I'm afraid there is no way of stopping cowboys entering any industry to rip off uninformed and gullible people.

The best anyone can do is to take advice from forums such as these, and consumer bodies such as Which? and EST amongst others, to ensure that they aren't being ripped off.

Which? How to buy solar panels

    EST Microgeneration guides

Mind you when the government tells the masses that they are giving their children "free" school meals (using the taxes they have taken off them), and when BT tell their broadband subscribers they are getting "free" live football (paid for by inflating the subscriptions they charge), you have to wonder how gullible the average person is in this country.

Hi, first thing is that they are trying to gouge you with that quote as has already been said.

The second is that quoting for 12 panels suggests you do not have room for the more usual number of 16. However it's important to know that not all panels are equal in wattage. The most common is 250 W which would only give 3 kW from 12 panels. It's generally best to aim for 4 kW. This can still be achieved with 12 panels as panels of around 330 W are available from BenQ and Sunpower. They are more expensive but you should still get them for under about £6800.
