freezing question

Options
I wanted to freeze these and was surprised to find the packs advise 'do not freeze', would you risk it? Do you think the chicken has been previously frozen? I don't want to get ill obviously but would rather not waste food if I don't have to (as if I don't eat relatively soon, best before date being today, or freeze, will have to chuck).

They may have been frozen before, but refreezing will not make them poisonous, but may affect the flavour or texture from what the supplier intended

I doubt you will notice any difference

Only two choices really, suck it and see, or chuck it

  • My guess is that you are right and they have previously been frozen, i wouldn't refreeze personally but then as long as they are not already opened I would go past the date by several days too. I think if something is recooked it's ok could you maybe make a curry or similar then freeze?

  • I have frozen both Tesco and Aldi versions of these (admittedly I didn't check the label to see if they could be I just assumed) we have eaten the defrosted packs and I didn't notice any deterioration, personally I would have frozen them.

I thought my luck was in when I found 6 of these ready cooked chicken reduced to 49p in waitrose. Put them all in the freezer and didn't notice the do not freeze until I got them out for our dinner. I threw them all in the bin and it made me feel sick thinking about the money I wasted! I always eat food well past the use by date but I was not sure about this one. Have you googled it? Sure I have eaten other packs of meat like this that have been in the freezer before though and been perfectly fine.
