Halifax application/new job

Hi all,

Can anyone advise on Halifax's criteria when starting a new job?

We have a DIP from Halifax from our broker and wanted to proceed. Our broker has now said that as my husband has recently started a new job, we will have problems with applying, and that they will require him to be in the job for a minimum of three months first.

Is this correct? It is a permanent role in the same industry, on a higher salary with no probation period.

Thanks

  • I had a look at the Halifax website and criteria, and this doesn't appear to be the case with Halifax.

Although many lenders will require probation to be complete I don't believe the Halifax do.

Thanks, I had a look too and just thought I was missing something.

We told our broker on our first meeting that he would be accepting a new job, so no surprises there. Don't understand why he would go through the DIP process and get us credit checked if we then can't proceed for months!
  • Now our broker has changed his mind (again) and says we need at least one payslip from the new employer before we can apply.

Would appreciate if i'm being a total idiot here, but the Halifax site says:
Basic Salary (Including applicants on permanent contract with probationary period)
Latest payslip, (this applies whether the applicant is paid weekly or monthly)
On occasions where the customer is unable to provide payslips that fit the listed criteria, we are able to request an employer's reference to verify the income

I've also read about people getting mortgages based on their contract/job offer rather than waiting until the first payslip. Our broker implies we're idiots for thinking this could even be possible.

    Who is right here?
  • I got my mortgage offer when I was starting a new position within the company I was with however told them I would be in a probationary period. A letter was accepted for my new salary however as I would never have for the mortgage on my own without... They accepted no problems. Not this was with Nationwide but they were fine about it despite seeing my old salary on the wage slip I provided!

    Hi

I had a mortgage approved with Halifax about 2 weeks ago and I started my new job this Monday. I had to get a letter from my new employer confirming date of start of employment, salary and permanent contract. They said any probation period wasn't a problem.

It caused a few delays because they got in a bit of a fiddle about the paperwork and put the wrong mortgage roll number on, but I got the mortgage approved without any new job payslips etc; just an official confirmation letter was needed.

    HTH. Good luck!
