Yes (I usually cycle to work anyway)My husband cycles to work everyday. I cycle the school run. This Thursday won't be any different!
I'm afraid I stick to the pavement when riding along my 8yo. He is too young to brave the busy roads around here (did I mention non-existing bike lanes?)...............................................................................

Yes (I usually cycle to work anyway)We have an annual workplace cycle challenge which started on Thursday. Teams of up to 5 riders from companies or organisations take part in a lighthearted challenge to see which team can complete most miles on their bikes in the subsequent 5 weeks. My commute is almost no distance (less than 5 miles return) so I have to do leisure miles too. Racked up 170 miles so far, many more to go!Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0

I cycled to hospital instead, to visit an elderly relative.0

I'd not cycle to work.... you run the gauntlet of idiot drivers, only to arrive with your hair all over the place and stinking of sweat.... not nice for those that have to sit beside you all day.... and there's usually nowhere to hang a regular jacket in the workplaces I've been in (except on the back of your chair), so god knows where you'd put all the other palaver.
Cycling's for people with good bikes, who are interested enough in cycling to be able to fix punctures at the roadside on the way to work (in the dark/rain too) .... and who are fit enough .... and don't have to look smart at work or those who are the minority where they have showers/changing spaces... not to mention somewhere to leave/park/lock up a bike!
For most of us - it's not going to happen ... ever.
I used to cycle 6 miles each way for my first job - in the days when car drivers were fewer and less aggressive - and at work there was a cycle rack..... I didn't sweat as I didn't actually cycle fast.... I just left home early. I only did it until I could borrow £140 for my first moped.0 -
Yes (I usually cycle to work anyway)Out of interest, did anyone see a noticeable difference in the number of people cycling? No difference up here in the Highlands but then it's not really a popular area for commuting by bike.
John
I noticed a difference.
usually i see about 4/5 cyclists on the way to work. And the bike shed is usually fairly full, often 10 or so bikes in there.
on the Thursday i didn't see any other cyclists on the road and there was only 2 bikes in the shed.
Both Wednesday and Friday i saw more.
There was also alot more angry drivers around on thursday too0
