So your answer is yes you can just buy a sim on pay&go and use when needed

I solved that problem when I had my previous sim by arranging for a mini statement to be texted to me every week

I had that message, but when I went back to the email to try to print I noticed a message at the bottom of the screen giving me the chance to "continue anyway", pressed that and ended up with plenty of coupons
