I have seen this deal on the ford website.

http://www.ford.co.uk/Cars/CarPromotions/Fiesta-PCH

It says £3816 advance rental (equivalent to £159 x 24) followed by monthly payments of £159 for 35 month.

What I don't understand is do you pay £3816 plus £159 for 35 month (total£9381)

Or is it £3816 that covers the first 24 months followed by the remaining 11 months at £159 (total £5516)

I assume it's the first option but if it is then surely it should be called a deposit not Advance Rental.

  • Thats right, they put "rental" in the blurb so the punter knows they are not buying the car, they never own the car they only rent it from the manufacturer.

If they used deposit then the unwitting punter thinks they own the car after they pay £9300 for a £12000 car then....shock they have to give it back or pay a balloon payment of £6000 or something like that.

Nope, a deposit implies that you will eventually own it.

So would you pay the first option or the second?

??? You pay the first option, the second one isn't offered in the deal.

    They are not options.

You pay £3816 in advance effectively as a first months rental (!) and then 35 monthly rentals of £159.

Your total cost is £9381 which works out at £60.13 per week as long as you don't exceed the mileage allowance and return the car in good condition.

It's rental only - you own nothing at the end of it.

I've heard the radio advert for this particular offer and as the voice over artist says really quick in the legals: "You will not own the car."

Overall you'll be paying £260 per month to hire the car for 3 years, plus whatever insurance, excise licence, and maintenance you have to pay for as well.

You might want to compare that with what you can find if you simple hire a rental car on long term rates, given that that will include the extras and likely have no mileage limits - all you have to pay is the fuel you use.
