Here's an update which includes a response to Jeff Bridges hair (great name).
Received a response today:

I called the number to be told that the telesales rep had never heard of Club55 and as it was online only he could nothing. He gave me a number for ATW Customer Relations. (first circle completed).
Called ATW and spoke to a young lady who was helpful, took my number and said someone would get back to me.0 -
Someone did get back to me fairly promptly. He informed that blocks of stations were uploaded in batches and Chirk hadn't been done yet. He advised me to buy a ticket on the train and, if I had any problems, refer them to customer relations.
My trip was Monday and I followed his suggestion. The ticket collector was unable to provide a Club 55 ticket from Chirk so he did so from the previous stop.
Problem solved and a good, punctual service at a great price. Glad I investigated first though, as I was able to advise the ticket collector what the problem was instead of possibly having an issue.
The only dark spot in the whole exercise was the operator at the Trainline who was utterly useless (no surprise there though).

As a footnote, there is a similar promotion in Scotland, but only from 1 October.0

It runs for October and November, which if memory serves is the same as last year at this time.
