I've recently returned from Canada where there are two large chains, Dollarama and Dollar Giant. Shops tend to be much bigger and stock is of a similar or much better quality than Poundland.
And everything is $1 (Canadian) which is around 50p! We came away with loads of craft stuff costing £3-£4 in UK stores. I can't see how they do it.
