Going to look at venues -advice

Options
We have some viewings booked tomorrow-is there any advice you have on what we particularly need to look at or ask about? We are only after a small low key day affair with larger party after.

  • Be really clear on what the price they quote includes. It's so hard to compare costs of places as they all include different things. The one we went for charges X per person, but that includes EVERYTHING - hire, food, drink, tasting sessions, wedding planner, staff etc etc. Other places charged to hire, some including staff, tables, chairs, some not others charge a set rate to hire then an amount per person etc etc.

If you are going for somewhere that is just hire, fins out if you can use your own suppliers or if they have a list of ones you have to use.

    DONT FORGET THE VAT!!
lol only as this is easily missed and then can come as a nasty suprise when you get the invoice.
Like Modgepodge said, check what it includes.

    Good luck and enjoy! :D

Oh yeah, most places we looked at quoted with VAT. One, very expensive place have me all the prices then casually dropped in 'oh, don't forget to add the VAT'. I'm sorry, what? Add 20% to these prices?! WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU QUOTE WITHOUT VAT? YOU KNOW ITS A WEDDING, IS THERE ANYOME WHO GETS THEIR WEDDING VAT FREE??

    Really annoyed me...

I hadn't thought about VAT- I need to speak to our preferred venue anyway to confirm it, so will double check. I *think* it will be inclusive. We have been lucky to find somewhere offering a really good price.

Anyway I'm just sulking now because the registrar could only do 4pm. It's so annoying, but I know it can't be helped. I'm just stressing now about fitting everything in (not that we are having a big do)
  • One venue near me (Peckforton Castle) apparently in the small print has something about being able to change the prices dependant upon inflation. So if you have booked your wedding say, this year, for 2015, but then in 2015 all of their prices go up, then you will be liable to pay the extra. I don't know if that is true that is just something I was told about there when I was shopping around. So could be something to watch out for in other venue t's and c's.
