i still wouldnt buy a pole or rod online unless you know exactly which model you want and you have felt it before hand.

  • i am looking to get back into fishishg after long period out, now i have the basics eg, rod reel
but am looking at getting a pole and a fishing box

    Hi,

I started fishing again last year after almost a 20 year gap. All I can say is that tackle prices are unbelievable - especially Poles which can range from £200 to £3,500 and then you've got all your float rigs to buy or make, elasticating the top sections isn't cheap and you'll need a "roller" as well. I managed to drop on a decent 2nd hand pole that cost me £85. It was a current model and was selling in tackle shops for £300. I must say since the first time I tried it I've hardly used anything else. What has been stated above is good advice though, go down to your local tackle shop and have a look around and also try handling a few poles. I personally wouldn't look at anything less than 13 metres in length and around the 950gm mark. Theres loads of 2nd hand tackle about but if you buy a 2nd hand pole try and take someone with you who knows what they're doing as poles do develop cracks around the joints. If you have around £200 - £300 to spend on a pole you should be able to get a decent new one but don't forget to budget for the extras.

Have a look here, plenty of good advice and also some reputable sellers of 2nd hand tackle http://www.maggotdrowning.com/
  • he hollie

i never seen that site before.
    it s pretty good
i noticed a Preston Lerc 5050 twin process pole for £140..not bad.. but again you need to go and feel it first.

i added the site to my favourites and im going to have a good look when i got time.

    thanks

  • You have a cracking fishery practically on your doorstep. Triang at Thorne. I went there a couple of weeks ago and had between 50 and 60 lb of fish on the pole and pellet including a 2 carp approx 6lb. Lake report here with directions http://www.yorkshirefishing.net/southyorks/triangsfishery.htmbut have a look on the Yorkshire fishing site as there are loads of places within striking distance (sorry about the pun) of you:)
