in Credit cards
Hi, I hardly use my credit cards but i have the hal;ifax one which does not charge the usual 3% when buying in USD (for example)
does anybody know if i add this card to paypal and then pay through paypal there is any point using this credit card? or does paypal do the currency conversion for you (and prob ably skim a bit off in the transaction) or does the charge out the other end of a paypal transaction happen in dollars onto my credit card?
sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, and thanks
Richard

PayPal will bill you in the denominated currency of the account (usually Sterling). Any foreign currency will be converted by PayPal themselves - so your chosen card will be of little benefit.0

You can edit the Currency conversion option for the Card in Paypal and set it to always charge in the sellers currency. I have that option set for a NationWide card and it saves a few quid on all my foreign transactions.
I found the following steps in another website (fairly certain that it's accurate):My Account -> Profile -> My Money -> My preapproved payments -> Update -> See Available Funding Sources (or Set Available Funding Sources) -> Conversion Options (for card you'd like to change this option)-> Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice -> Submit
Here is the summary of a purchase I made a few days ago.
Invoice Amount: 51.9x USD
Paypal's conversion:
£32.3x GBP
£1.00 GBP = $1.61 USD
Using NationWide card via Paypal:
£31.4x GBP
£1.00 GBP = $1.6535 USD0
