Hello. My boyfriend and I are ready do buy our first ever property. It seems it'll be complicated though. I am in full time employment and my boyfriend is self employed but full time. We have saved a good deposit. And I've looked at mortgage calculators based on the info we can afford the house we want.
No idea where to start it's all new to us! He has an excellent credit score mine is only fair does this matter? We've been renting for 3 years never struggled and never missed a payment.
My parents have offered to help using the Barclays spring board mortgage where they put in 10% bit get it back 3 years later. Does anyone know if this isn't too hard to obtain because they almost act as a guarantor? I have a ccj still showing on my credit report think it's been on my file nearly 4 years. It just seems so difficult and I don't see it being easy. We've looked into this shared ownership but not too keen.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

You need to see an independent broker who can analyse the issues in your financial make-up.
Order your partners last three years' HMRC SA302s and all three versions of your credit files before seeing a broker.I am a mortgage broker. Thanks for the reply. If it's a joint mortgage won't they take into account my boyfriends excellent credit score, the fact we have a good deposit and that we earn a good wage? Rather than Saying no because my score isn't great0

My boyfriend and I applied for a mortgage when my credit history was 'Fair' and his was 'Excellent' and had our mortgage approved in principle. However, I was in dispute over an unfair default which has now been removed and we are currently waiting for our mortgage to be processed.
Good luck with your application!0 -
Ah that's good, bet your really excited! It's so hard we don't want to rent anymore as it's our money making someone else rich! Worst case we don't get accepted can parents help at all?0

TBH all you can get on here is speculative answers. Best advice is as given, get your case in front of a broker. Ensure the case goes to the right lender first time and concentrate the stress to the house purchase side, rather than the mortgage.I am a mortgage broker.
